Proposal For your organization

Nonprofit SEO for organizations that need to be found

Donors look you up after an event. Volunteers search for a shift. People who need your programs type what they need. We make sure your website and Google listing are what they find. From $125 a month.

Closest real result: a Florida local service business went to #1 in the Google Map Pack with 600% more qualified inquiries in six months. Not a nonprofit; see how it was done.

01 Statement of need

Three groups search for your organization, and each types something different

Most nonprofit websites are written for the people who already know them. Search is where everyone else starts, and SEO for nonprofits means answering three kinds of searches at once.

Searcher 1 / Donors

People deciding whether to give

They heard your name at a gala or got your appeal letter. Then they search your name, or the cause plus your town. The first minute decides whether they trust you with a gift.

They type

  • "[your name] reviews"
  • "donate to animal rescue near me"
  • "where to donate winter coats [city]"

Searcher 2 / Volunteers

People with a free Saturday

Students who need service hours, retirees, company team days. They search by place and time and sign up wherever the role, the shift and the next step are clear.

They type

  • "volunteer opportunities near me"
  • "volunteer [city] weekends"
  • "food bank volunteer for teens"

Searcher 3 / People you serve

People who need help today

They don't know your name. They need hours, an address, whether they qualify and what to bring. If your program page doesn't say, another result will.

They type

  • "food pantry open saturday"
  • "free tax help [county]"
  • "emergency shelter for women [city]"

The searches above are examples of phrasing, not measured search volumes.

Which of these three searches does your organization show up for today? The free audit checks, in writing.

Why good organizations stay invisible

A small nonprofit rarely loses on search because of its work. It loses because of how the website was built and who had time to look after it:

  • Programs live in PDFs. The annual report and the program flyer are PDFs, so the page itself says three sentences. Google has little to rank.
  • One page for everything. Food pantry hours, the summer camp and the capital campaign share a single "What we do" page, so none of them matches a specific search.
  • No Google Business Profile, or three of them. A chapter office has no listing at all, or old volunteers created duplicates nobody can log into.
  • National names take the general searches. For "donate to cancer research", the household names win. The winnable searches are local and specific, and nobody has written pages for them.
  • Nothing links to you. Partners, sponsors and the local paper mention you without a link, so search engines see a site that nobody vouches for.

A note on the big names

You don't need to outrank a national charity for its own words. You need to own the searches in your service area and the questions only you can answer well. That is where the work goes.

02 Approach

What a nonprofit SEO plan does each month

Every plan covers the same three areas. The plan size changes how many keywords and links we work on, not whether the basics get done.

A

Your place on the map

Google Business Profile optimization for every real location people can visit: the right categories, programs, hours (including distribution days and seasonal hours), photos and description. Citation building and cleanup so your name, address and website match everywhere they appear. A review process that asks volunteers, donors and visitors in a way Google allows.

How local SEO for nonprofits works

B

Pages that match real searches

A keyword map for your three audiences: the donor searches, the volunteer searches and the service searches. We tell you which pages to write or split (one per program is usually the first fix), what to call them, and what each must answer. From Golden up you also get an on-page audit and a content gap analysis.

Where SEO fits in nonprofit marketing

C

Links that vouch for you

Guest posts placed through outreach on other websites, Web 2.0 pages on high-authority publishing platforms, and amplification links that strengthen those pages. We also point out the links you already deserve: sponsors, partners and coalitions that mention you without linking.

Link counts per plan

03 Related funding

Google Ad Grants and nonprofit SEO work side by side

Google's Ad Grants program gives eligible nonprofits up to $10,000 per month in search ads shown on Google.com, according to Google. It is a real resource, and it comes with rules: a 5% click-through rate each month at the account level, conversion tracking, at least two ad groups per campaign and two sitelinks, no single-word keywords outside a few exceptions. Miss the click-through rate two months running and the account can be paused.

Organic search has no such rules and no cost per click. Pages that rank keep bringing visitors whether the grant account is running or not. The two work best together: grant ads test which pages and messages get clicks, SEO builds the lasting visibility.

We don't manage Ad Grants accounts. We work on your website, Google listing and links, and the pages we improve are often the same ones your grant ads point to.

The organizations this is built for

If people need to find you on a map, or look you up before they give or sign up, search work pays off. A few common cases:

  • Local chapters of national groups

The national site ranks for the cause; the chapter needs to rank for its own town. Chapters and local SEO

  • Food banks and pantries

Hours, distribution days and eligibility have to be right on Google, every week.

  • Churches and congregations

Newcomers search for service times and what to expect. SEO for churches

  • Shelters and housing programs

Visible to people who need help, with confidential addresses kept off the map.

  • Museums, arts and libraries' friends groups

07 Letters of support

What clients say about how we work

Short letters, in our clients' words: about budgets, smaller plans and reports you can check yourself.

Started small, checked every link

"I'll admit I was skeptical about SEO. I'd heard too many stories about agencies taking money and not delivering. Joe was upfront about what SEO can and can't do, never tried to upsell me, and actually recommended a smaller package than the one I planned to buy. We started small to test the waters. Within two months my traffic went from 5 visitors a day to 60, and by month four it was about 500 a day. The links came from real, relevant websites with genuine traffic; I checked them myself in Ahrefs and Semrush. I've since upgraded to a larger package."
Maxwell Beau

Still helping after we cut the budget

"This agency was great to work with for SEO, especially Joe. He understood all our goals and was wonderful to work with. Even after we decided to take our SEO work in-house because of budget constraints, he still checks in with us and sends updates and tips to improve our online presence."
Barry Phillips

No vague promises

"What I appreciate most is their transparency. No vague promises, no 'secret sauce', just clear strategies that work. They send detailed reports every month, answer all my questions and adjust the plan when needed. Our search traffic has grown steadily since we signed up. It's refreshing to work with an SEO agency that does exactly what it says."

08 Evaluation

How you'll know it's working, and how to tell your board

The monthly report lists every link with its live address, the page it points to and the anchor text. That's the delivery side. For the results side, we suggest you track three numbers from search, all visible in free Google tools:

  1. 1

Gifts started from a search visit

Donation-form completions where the visit came from Google. A form thank-you page makes this easy to count.

  2. 2

    Volunteer sign-ups and program inquiries

The same, for the volunteer form and the contact or intake form.

  3. 3

    Searches you appear for

From Search Console: which searches show your pages, and how often people click. Topic searches growing next to your name is the sign that it's working.

  4. Want to size this before you start? The donor value calculator and the volunteer pipeline calculator show what your own numbers would need to be.

09 Questions

Nonprofit SEO questions, answered plainly

Doing SEO since 2009. 15,000+ clients served. 94% client retention. Something not covered? Ask the assistant in the corner, or write to us.

Does SEO cost money, or can a nonprofit do it for free?

Much of the groundwork costs only staff time: a complete Google Business Profile, one page per program, clear page titles and Search Console. What costs money is the volume work a small team rarely has hours for, such as earning links every month and fixing a site at scale. Our plans start at $125 a month.

Can our staff or volunteers do SEO themselves?

Yes, up to a point. A volunteer can keep your Google listing current, write program pages and check which searches bring visits. Link building and technical fixes take steady hours each month, which is where most small teams stall. Our free audit shows which parts you can keep in-house.

How long before we see results from nonprofit SEO?

Usually months. Searches for your own name and Google listing fixes tend to move first. Searches for your cause or service, where other organizations already rank, take longer. The pace depends on your site, your area and who else shows up, so we give a timeline after the audit, not before.

Do you guarantee rankings?

No. No one controls Google's results, and a guarantee of a position is a red flag. We commit to the work in your plan, list every link in your monthly report, and tell you plainly what is and isn't moving.

We already have Google Ad Grants. Do we still need SEO?

They do different jobs. Grant ads appear above the results under Google's account rules, and an account that misses them can be paused. Organic rankings don't cost anything per click and keep working whatever happens to the grant account. Many organizations use both: the grant to test pages, SEO to build lasting visibility. We don't manage grant accounts.

Do you work with other nonprofits in our area or cause?

We may. We don't promise exclusivity in a city or a cause area. What we do promise: one organization's data, reports and plans are never shared with another.

What does the monthly report contain?

Every link built that month with its live address, the page on your site it points to and the anchor text used, plus the keywords we target and how they moved. It is written so a board member or treasurer can follow it without an SEO glossary.

Who does the work?

Our own team, which has worked in SEO since 2009 and served 15,000+ clients with 94% client retention. You write to the same people every month at one email address.

Is there a contract, and how do we cancel?

No contract and no minimum term. Plans run month to month and you cancel by email before the next month. You can also buy a single month of work once, which suits a one-time grant or a year-end budget line.

Do you offer a nonprofit discount?

No. Every organization pays the same published price, starting at $125 a month with no setup fee. We will point you to the smallest plan that fits, even when that is not the one you planned to buy.
